Hi HN, I'm the creator and solo developer behind Browserflow, a Chrome extension that lets you automate any website. (Show HN from around a year ago: https://ift.tt/o8g9FdH). Basically, it's a general-purpose browser automation tool like Selenium/Puppeteer/Playwright that anyone can use without writing code. The Browserflow website includes examples of automations people often request, including scraping popular websites like LinkedIn. A few days ago, I received a cease and desist letter from LinkedIn: https://ift.tt/XAQLfxt As a one-man operation with modest resources, I'm hoping I can get some help from the HN community in understanding what this means to avoid getting sued into oblivion. :) At first I thought that I'd be fine if I removed all references to LinkedIn from the Browserflow website, but I'm not so sure about that. One of LinkedIn's demands is to “Cease and desist developing, offering, or using software or programs with features developed, marketed, or intended for automating activity on LinkedIn’s website or app, scraping LinkedIn member data, or otherwise violating the LinkedIn User Agreement”. Even if I removed all the LinkedIn examples, Browserflow could still be used to automate or scrape LinkedIn because, well, it's a browser automation tool. Is LinkedIn demanding that I stop developing Browserflow altogether? The letter cites hiQ Labs, Inc. v. LinkedIn Corp as the legal precedent for why Browserflow is in violation, but there are some differences between hiQ and Browserflow that I thought might be meaningful: 1. Browserflow is not designed specifically for scraping LinkedIn: It's a tool for general-purpose browser automation, not a service that scrapes LinkedIn and resells the data. 2. Browserflow does not scrape LinkedIn on its own: Any automation of LinkedIn is initiated by the user using their own LinkedIn account. 2. Browserflow does not create or use fake LinkedIn accounts. I'd be fine with removing all the LinkedIn examples from the website, but I'd like to continue building Browserflow because I love working on it and it's my livelihood. I'd appreciate any advice or help. Thanks!

Hi HN, I made this because I needed to track how much I work and on what. Timeretain allows you to track time using a fast, private feed of time cards. It displays your stats next to it, and you can filter to zoom in on a description or tag. You can always export what's in view. It's different from other time trackers because it's powerful and minimalist. Here's how I use it. I need to hold myself accountable. I want to know how much I've worked in a week, and Timeretain immediately shows that — no need to create extensive 'reports'. Next, a log of what I did is useful for standup. I can get that from my feed, which loads quickly. Finally, I have to track time for specific topics. With Timeretain, I can add tags on the fly — it doesn't require me to create and manage 'projects'. I would love to hear your feedback. Hi everyone! I'm one of the authors of this project. The demo you see here is powered by a tool that I recently helped develop and open-source at Shopify called handy. You can find the repo here: https://ift.tt/Ubne3Of Most people don't realize that VR headsets have become really capable motion capture platforms, so we decided to release this tool to bring motion capture into the hands of everyone who owns a headset. With a cheap Quest 2 you can capture your hands using the headset's hand-tracking feature and your head. With an expensive Quest Pro you could capture your facial expressions using the headset's eye and face-tracking features. Thanks for checking this project out! Hi HN community, I'm Marcus, a 17-year-old Software Engineer from Germany. For the past two years I've been working on Tablane [0]( https://ift.tt/fyJ5ZCD ) a task/project management tool, with features like: - Collaborative Editing (google docs) - Optimistic updates with RTK Query - Realtime sync with Socket.io - An awesome design Let me know what you think! How I got here: 2020: I was developing a TTT [1] (Trouble in Terrorist Town) plugin for my minecraft server, when I started to require a project management tool to keep track of the features I wanted to implement, originally I used a text file, but after some time I started using products like ClickUp and Monday. But not long after I hit several paywalls for features that I wanted to use (Custom Status, Limited Number of Boards, ...) Soon after Tablane (originally task-board) was born. I started building the website using plain HTML, then found out about React and completed Colt Steele's "Web Developer Bootcamp" [2] and "The Modern React Bootcamp" [3] and started re-writing Tablane in React, and started adding feature after feature. Now I am about to finish Highschool and originally I thought about applying to college and spending another 3-5 years there, but after the positive feedback I got on a three month internship I did at ContentPepper, and seeing how my own projects developed, I decided to look for open Developer positions, to work with a team of experienced developers so I can learn even faster. Hello HN Over the New Year's break, I created semanticvideosearch.com. This can search any video based on meaning and context. I would love to get your feedback on it. What should I change and what can be improved? The preprocessed videos can be search very quickly, while the youtube video links take some time (yt videos also have a upper duration limit due to compute issues). I intend to add search based on the frames of the video soon. I would love to know your thoughts on the demo and any suggestions for improvements. Thanks! PS: the inspiration to create this was to get the 2 mins of content from youtube videos with 18 other mins of fluff.
